A cute example of the difference between เหมือนกัน (meeuan-gan) "to be the same" and เคียวกัน (diaow-gan) "to be the same":
ฉันและคุณเหมือนกัน
chan lae kun meeuan-gan
"We are the same."
(You are one person, and I am a second person, and we are the same. We have the same characteristics/qualities/etc.)
ฉันและคุณเคียวกัน
chan lae kun diaow-gan
"We are the same."
(We are literally the same person; we share an identity. There is no difference.)
