@celesteh it seems these days everyone are crazy about specifically mastodon. i personally like both interfaces (qvitter & mastodon), but at the moment i really like the feel at this particular instance (witches.town) where i landed purely by accident by liking the domain name. i don't think creating a gnusocial instance with a qvitter plugin would be too bad for algonoise.social. but i'm not sure if my opinion in any way worthy to rely on
@celesteh did you actually went and bought algonoise.social?
@celesteh nice! yeah ruby is a beast on its own.. kinda new gen. i'm from the 'old' days of html, some css and apache + php. don't get the new JS,node,ruby,python universe. or at least for last 10 years i didn't have time to get myself up-to-date with all these new web technologies. i hope Mastodon & GNUsocial will not get too incompatible. i think mastodon is young, and as far as i've seen people were requesting implementation of !-groups
@celesteh witches.town feels pretty special.
@celesteh i like it too. i like the almost territorial feel of the instances/pods and their peculiarities... far from the one huge universal network of FB/TW with VC in control
@celesteh i think it's pretty international-english, yeah.
@celesteh since mastodon is a declarative anti-nazi software, i'm not surprised at the amount of outspoken anarchism anti-capitalism and other queer radicals... but i think fediverse is not "full" of french anarchists. as far as i understand there are multiple sides of fediverse, and those sides can block off eachother. like shitposter.club for example
anti-procrastination device
i should be making hiphop beats for a group intro rap track that will be performed in a technoburlesque show next week!
wait, are the columns on mastodon interface now fluidly stretchable? awesome!
@Anarchist586 IMHO anything that involves influencing social behaviour is political. want it or not. moving from centralized service that is essentially authoritarian (via VC) to decentralized federation of pods/instances that each make up their own rules of communication which is much more communal in its nature cannot ever be seen as apolitical or free of ideology.
@QuazarBen i was interested in the bridge on the level of toots, which would be propagated to my twitter timeline
soooo..... the heretic question: is there a bridge from mastodon instance to 'the birdsite'?
here's some music for the dark witches: https://unexplainedsoundsgroup.bandcamp.com/album/differences-visions-of-contemporary-composition
the "birdsite", heh! 😏
@sarahjeong @adafruit welcome! enjoy your stay!
@MattyG @tuxdude @spiderrobotpig I had to duckduckgo "MAGA hat" to understand.
But seriously I never understood how free speech could protect hate speech. I think it can't and shouldn't. Yeah people have the right to have their own political views. And express them. But since instances/pods are like clubs/backyards not public media, there can be rules created by that community and these must be respected, or else one is then just hypocrite?
time to go to bed. spent too much time on the virtual-social. but thanks for having me witches.town BBS and mastodon! the atmosphere is good! here's some music for everyone: https://novadeviator.bandcamp.com/track/sig-bender
Random thought:
I think federation of a social service, where independent instances cooperate to create a larger community without an overarching administrative entity with a corporate goal, may be conceptually difficult for some people because of the accepted norm that the role of a user is customer and/or product.
The idea you're a person, not a brand, is gonna be unfamiliar territory in some circles.
