@not_on_pizza afaik the limit with OStatus is only at the input point, so whatever the particular instance sets as limit when somebody writes a toot/status update. so statuses written at algonoise.social, which is a GNUsocial instance with limit of 1000 characters, should appear in full in a mastodon feed. and i think this should hold true for other cross-federations from/to frendica diaspora hubzilla.... but this is a bit of speculation....
