I came here from a smaller instance hoping for more and diverse content and now the federated timeline is full of anime porn. I don't really feel like the nsfw tags are the best solution for this because everything else still gets buried.
@masu Just so you know, I see your a musician, and I must have followed you from a list of same and therefore didn't pay attention to the instance you're on. TBH, there are way too many JP language posts for those of us who don't read it. Many have asked for a language parameter, and I'd love to be able to see just EN+FR
@randulo well, since mastodon is still pretty new I'm hopeful some sort of filtering will be implemented at some point :)
@masu one might expect that the language problem would solve itself as people maybe choose instances that are of certain languages. Meanwhile, I like messing around with four instances.
@randulo @masu i don't think federated timeline has much use anymore given the amount of people and instances (451240/1287!). it's the last resort when you have looked at everything else. use local timeline or your home feed. also, filtering is done by way of blocking on instance level - some instances are not federating with other instances and some instances are whilelisting instead of blacklisting.
