PATTI SMITH: I always write in the morning, very early in the morning. I wake up about seven and go to an empty cafe. I like to have both a little solitude but have some action around me.
What I learned you know, writing it's like a muscle. It is like running. It is like anything else that we do, singing, playing the violin, it is a lot of it is labour intensive, discipline intensive.
It is not all about inspiration and magic and being stoned or all of these things can play an interesting part. But really, to find a certain discipline and apply a work ethic to writing, you will get a lot more done.
