When Francophones post #ACAB, are they saying 'all cops are bastards'? Is the fediverse full of French anarchists?
@celesteh since mastodon is a declarative anti-nazi software, i'm not surprised at the amount of outspoken anarchism anti-capitalism and other queer radicals... but i think fediverse is not "full" of french anarchists. as far as i understand there are multiple sides of fediverse, and those sides can block off eachother. like shitposter.club for example
@novadeviator I'm mostly just wondering if #ACAB means the same in French and English!
@celesteh i think it's pretty international-english, yeah.
@novadeviator This network is awesome!
@celesteh i like it too. i like the almost territorial feel of the instances/pods and their peculiarities... far from the one huge universal network of FB/TW with VC in control
@celesteh witches.town feels pretty special.
@novadeviator I'm working on getting something up at algonoise.social, but i'm strongly leaning towards vanilla gnu social, since I don't know ruby at all and some of the existing gnu social tools are useful for musicians.
@celesteh nice! yeah ruby is a beast on its own.. kinda new gen. i'm from the 'old' days of html, some css and apache + php. don't get the new JS,node,ruby,python universe. or at least for last 10 years i didn't have time to get myself up-to-date with all these new web technologies. i hope Mastodon & GNUsocial will not get too incompatible. i think mastodon is young, and as far as i've seen people were requesting implementation of !-groups
@novadeviator I'm feeling really indecisive about which to install. I've ruled out friendica, despite many good features, because their help files are extremely condescending!
@celesteh it seems these days everyone are crazy about specifically mastodon. i personally like both interfaces (qvitter & mastodon), but at the moment i really like the feel at this particular instance (witches.town) where i landed purely by accident by liking the domain name. i don't think creating a gnusocial instance with a qvitter plugin would be too bad for algonoise.social. but i'm not sure if my opinion in any way worthy to rely on
@celesteh i don't think it would be too bad. sorry, i'm using that classy english lingo for avoiding stating something directly, which is, that i have no idea what would be best.
@novadeviator What are your favourites?
(I'm slightly wondering about relative server loads, but I guess I could move to Amazon if that became an issue.)
@celesteh so far i used quitter.se (qvitter+gnusocial), diasp.org (diaspora*) and witches.town (mastodon). i like mastodon UI (+ it has a good mobile client), and yesterday i discovered a decent mobile client for diaspora which might help me post and follow more. i always liked the clean UI of diaspora. but i see friendica is able to magically connect to nearly everything else including FB/TW... and now has a clean theme
@novadeviator My problem with Diaspora is that it's really become a home for MRAs. There are users that follow the #transgender and #feminist tags to troll users into quitting. It's dispiriting.
@celesteh unacceptable.
@celesteh it almost makes me want to try it out myself... and people on friendica can be followed in mastodon, gnusocial and diaspora...
@novadeviator What friendica features do you most like? Is it the being able to interact with everyone?
@celesteh but for the last hour i'm somehow drooling over friendica features.
