easily the most annoying thing about google sheets is that closing the Find dialog automatically scrolls and selects the cell you had selected before you had opened the dialog — which may have been 30 minutes ago! have fun finding where you were just now.

had a dream about cursor position escape codes not working in bash (even though it's the fault of the terminal emulator and not the shell)
also I was on a school computer when a teacher told me they worked really hard to find (in their hands) the calculator I lost. unfortunately for them, I didn't bring my calculator to school that day.

CONTEXT: reverse engineering MIPS disassembly from late 90s, equal parts the fault of programmer and compiler.

programmer: "i'm gonna use unsigned chars here because they're just one byte big and less bytes is a faster program"
compiler: "oh fuck i have to add instructions to emulate overflows"

programmer: "i'm gonna copy this unsigned char into a char, then, oh yeah, shift a number by it"
compiler: "oh fuck i have to handle negative shifts"

programmer: "int length = 1; int i = 0; do {stuff} while (++i < length);" (part of an inlined C macro)
compiler: "today's my day off, leave the branch in"

had a really strange and interesting dream. I don't know if I can share it, but I wrote down the main points so maybe I'll have more like it in the future...

a trans friend of mine got kicked out of their parents' recently. they're staying at a friend of theirs for now, but i can see this getting worse considering their mental health and especially their relations with their parents. we've only known each other online so i can't do much physically. i don't wanna say too much here 'cause they didn't ask for help (shrugging it off no less), but i'd appreciate if someone more experienced and calm than me could maybe talk to them directly! or maybe just better evaluate the situation!

also, check out the Optimized Aoshima's Time-Stretched Pulse. you can do a Fourier transform directly on the sweep!

I tried making an IR of a speaker sim VST but it sounded noticeably duller than the plugin. is this maybe because of the phase information being tossed out when it's made into a zero latency IR? I should try just using an impulse instead of a sine sweep next time

oh, apparently these cabs have V30s in them too. i meant specifically one of the G12T75s.

according to my IR statistics, a Bogner Uberkab mic'd with an SM57 on the cap edge at 0 inches is one of the most "average" guitar cab sound. probably not in reality, but at least in data.

buried in my folders of IRs is some DIs of some simple heavy riffs. it's funny though, because i have no idea how they got here, and these takes are *bad*. they must've been one take each (maybe even improvised) and are clearly not to a click. the DI sound itself ain't bad though.
