i think it's uncalled for to expect new musicians to know all of the "legends" of their instrument and/or genre. the amount of musicians and their music can only go up, so it's increasingly unreasonable to be expected to namedrop some guy from the 60s whose music is literally of and for a different era.
just something i've been thinking about after watching a bunch of interviews in the last week. if you love your legends, that's cool, but we now have technology and genres that they could only dream of.
