I thought I'd look up some basic stuff about ASMR since I sorta knew what it was about but nothing past that. I thought it was something old coming back as a fad, but the name and documentation is actually pretty new.
the usual audio triggers work for me, most stuff besides mouth sounds which I just find offputting.
I wonder if (at least in my case) it has something to do with latency in sensations. hard to explain, but I think of it like the ringing after a peak through a filter.

I've had a similar sensation to ASMR when I was easing off various SSRIs, which seems to be most commonly known as brain zaps. unlike ASMR however, it's not always pleasurable. I find brain zaps feel higher in the head, too.
basically the SSRI withdrawal made it so that every time I moved my eyes, there was an unpredictable chance of jolting myself. I know some people enjoy brain zaps and intentionally trigger them, but my experience has been more akin to a slow torture.
