@tethre Of what? The meetup? ๐ฏ
@river I read your blog post about living on a boat. Very interesting and fun to read!
I guess the problems with condensation and mould can be solved similar to vans and busses, the main difference being half of the vehicle under (very cold) water. ๐ค
Digging your flickr now. ๐
@river Really? Did you read something about it? Oh noes. ๐ง
@river The mention doesn't work for some reason, i already had this before. Have you not received my message? ๐ฒ
@river Yes, i also answered. ๐ค
@river Never heard of, but i searched for it. I think that's a good motto. ๐
Just be sure to be able to close it again without scratches, otherwise an eventual warranty may be lost. This, of course, only matters if one doesn't buy second hand - which i always prefer. ๐
@river Uh, that looks terrible... Good that you've opened it. ๐
By the way, nice photos of your boat! ๐
@river I know. There's much market blabla around li-ion cells, too. Like cells with 9900 mAh capacity and something like that and in reality they only have like 1000. ๐
@river I don't know, but i understand your worries. The circuits in my power banks always have protection against over- and undercharging and other stuff. At least the offers tell that. ๐
I've got some "respect" for li-ion cells, too, since one of the cells made a noise like it was going to explode. However, it was my own fault as i opened the batteries with a screwdriver and it was hard and... well, i was a bit too harsh. ๐
@river Oh and: Cute power bank cases. ๐ ๐
@river The main advantages are much less weight (don't know if that's important for you) and that li-ion cells can be discharged to 0% without damaging the cells. I read that acid batteries shouldn't be discharged under 50% and you better keep them above 75%. ๐ค The higher the better for the cells lifespan.
Your idea sounds good and practical. ๐ Wouldn't a power bank like mine be sufficient for that use case?
On 29th January 2018 the next Diaspora* meetup will happen in Berlin: https://dber.org/ *๏ธโฃ
Mastodon users are welcome, even though Diaspora* and Mastodon are not yet connecting to each other.
Let's sit, drink something, talk and laugh and spend time together. Drinks and WIFI are available, too.
We also have a Code of Conduct: http://berlincodeofconduct.org/ and as a queer person in any way, you won't be alone as i'm also going there since several years. The people there are cute. ๐

@river I didn't make the cases and pcb myself. You can buy empty cases with the board on Ebay or Aliexpress. They only cost a few euros. You can also buy the pcb alone. ๐
Yes, recycling is always good! ๐
There are people who buy notebook batteries in bulk and get hundreds of cells and build their own power walls or e-bike batteries with them. ๐

What type of batteries are you using in your boat? ๐ฏ
That green power bank is the one i currently have. Made it myself, too. It weighs almost 500 gram and i again don't have a real use for it. It was just fun to make. ๐
I don't have photos anymore of the two power banks i've written about. This one is just for you to get an idea of how many power banks look inside. There are also flat ones which contain different types of cells.
Having said person tell me that they want to support me made me feel that what i do is meaningful. ๐ค I still have 12 cells lying around, waiting to be assembled. Motivation is lacking however. ๐

Two years ago i made two power banks. I harvested the li-ion cells from quasi-defect notebook batteries, opening them and ripping the cells out.
That's hard work and not harmless. One of the batteries started making a funny noise and i immediately opened my window and threw it out into the inner courtyard. ๐ฑ
The big one, which had 6 cells, i just gave away for free. I didn't need it - i just had fun collecting the cells and making it.
The smaller one, which had only one cell, was bought by a nice non-binary person. They gave me more than i paid myself, even though i told them. They said, they want to support me.
That made me feel appreciated. ๐โจ
