idk DMs are a mess and a big part of it is just that misunderstanding btwn privacy and security being different user expectations i guess
like the problem is not that DMs arent secure, the problem is that, and idk if this has changed recently, but if you DM someone not on a masto instance, it just shows up as a normal post to them, which they can boost/etc unknowingly. and yeah theres a warning, but like
and telling people 'just use signal/etc' for things they want people not to see but dont really care about it being secure is kind of shitty and missing the point
'im not really ok with the entirety of ppl following/federated seeing this' is different from 'i need my messages secure forever'
like, privacy-from-observers and security are different things and i hate that people keep thinking people mean one when they def mean the other
ok look the "DMs are not secure" stuff is missing the point of DMs -- yes, they arent secure, but they are ~private to not-admins
hey, I have a question about masto -- I'm sure it's answered somewhere, but I can't find it.
My understanding is that the federated timeline shows posts from all the folks who are followed by people on this instance-- but there are a lot of accounts, that, when clicked, don't show any local followers. Is there some other source that the federated timeline draws from? Or a reason that the list of followers could be incomplete?
and that'll drive healthcare costs down way down too, compairitively
a big part of healthcare is also just giving people money -- so many stress based illnesses, and preventable illnesses in general, are from poverty/inabaility to fix broken things/keep fresh food

you pay up front so they have basically no reason to give that much worth of care -- you cant withhold payment for them not doing their job, and often they'll just tell you shit takes time

gatekeepers are more worthy of contempt -- a lot of gatekeeping is about maximizing visits -- profiting off your psychology of sunk cost
we're a captive audience bc we dont know if new doctors will be a fight, so we stick with our not great ones, and they know it
but, yanno, more visits means more money for doctors so they try to maximise them
idk like, not-neurotypical people have this horrendous double bind because its both extremely hard to get to doctors (especially since most dont take email) and often once we do, hard to get them to take us seriously once there
