a consist being an entire train. I would say they have a 60% chance of arresting an entire car

they cant arrest an entire subway consist, and the white tech men riding with wont disrupt entire cars speaking up, eventually they'll start (not their intent, but) using the time/money/wages the police are wasting as even more leverage to get them to fuck off

and i have a half formed idea that a good way to spread this is to educate entire train cars on it while they near the fare inspection stations during heavy fare inspection hours, pull it off, and repeat, until people are replicating your 'classes'

this of course doesnt work for things like commuter rail where they check every ticket once you're on, but for subway and light rail and buses, it often can

it doesnt matter if the people they target have fare or not, just a simple "hey, why are you checking theirs and not mine" will show others that its a thing you can do

the worst that happens (other than like, you being arrested) assuming you have valid fare, is you delay, wasting their time and saving someone later in the day.

chaffing cop time is so useful.

but often you can get enough people enraged or annoyed that the fare cops just, give up and leave. and you can get people out of hefty fines or prison time at that point

remember that if you are on public transit when a fare inspector comes on and you can risk police interaction, a simple "hey, why aren't you checking mine" can waste their time at worst (so they can do less in a day) but has the chance, esp if the rest of the bus joins you, which you can often cause to happen if you talk about them wasting your collective time for targeting people who are marginalized

I wrote about this on twitter, but I might as well reproduce this here

That’s right: the fundamental contradictions inherent to capitalism.
