@chr but my general project philosophy is to take detailed notes because its never just me who needs the thing eventually, so... they'll exist even if its a failure
@chr yeah, i havent had energy for projects and REALLY DONT for this but i kind of need to because no one else is right now
@chr anyway i'll tinker tomorrow but goin' sleep now, i'll report back
@chr i *think* the way to force it if nothing else works is literally just having it all be tunneled in like a vlan or something instead of on the actual web
@chr (my prototype right now is going to be 2 raspberry pis and a laptop on the lan)
@chr but i'd like to prevent either things leaking out (boosts, etc) or things leaking in (follows and boosts of those follows from outside the whitelist)
@chr i see it being good for DSA, but my endgoal is like, making physical communities more connected, with each cluster as its own instance, especially if theres heavy overlap between people either via visiting or living places, or working somewhere and living somewhere else
@chr basically i want to prototype this with friends but eventually bring it into organizations or neighborhoods
@chr okay good cool cool
when i say 'federated island' i mean it in the same way we talk about hi-sec islands in eve -- a cluster of connected things disconnected from the rest of the 'verse
say i want something for a loosely organized group of friends but i want it to stay between friend groups on the whitelist, and not people in the extended fediverse. a federated island, with no external follows, is that possible, or just the never federating stuff?
hey so, heres a question -- is there any way to prevent your members from *following* outside a whitelist?
(like i fed these crows a few years in a row and now every summer they bonk their beaks and feets against the window to signal its time for hangouts if im around)
'but erins birds are wild they dont know humans you shouldnt make them rely on you'
crows co-evolved with us. they pass on the faces and positions of nice humans to other crows. we fucked that up years ago. give 'em some peanutbutter.
just check before feeding them other things because some things can kill them real easy
also they love hot peppers
((also headscritches with post-operative toothbrushes meant for after dental implants. super soft))
(it is not hard to get crow friends they love peanutbutter in peanut shells)
and like, were i actually mourning i'd have like, a long-ass black dress and several crow friends on my person
today i was told i 'look like you are in mourning clothes, where's the funeral' because black tanktop and long black skirt, the only colors and fabrics that dont hurt me
@chr er, figuratively not literally unless you want that
