i dont talk about magic much for.... a variety of reasons, but like. i keep seeing on twitter that Ritual Is The Only Way You Must Do It when that too is just a focusing tool and you can just like, do it
you dont need an hour of free time and 17$ of components
and people not saying there are other ways is probably part of the problem
anyway i'm going back to basically never talking about it, again
which imo is kind of funny <_<
it also makes the least sense until you can, but.
anyway back to my mysterious hermiting on that topic
@nire *crawls out of my own hermit cave for a moment*
Honestly in my opinion (experience?) the only real advantage to ritual magic is that it can often help you focus and thus produce more consistent results, but beyond that, it's really a matter of personal inclination more than a Right or Wrong Method.

@InspectorCaracal right, yep! but theres so so so much of people saying Its The Only Way on twitter
@InspectorCaracal and like i guess its good for people making spell components and enchanted items but like
maaaybe thats not a good reason <_<
@nire Agreed 100%. Artificial reduction of options is never good!
@InspectorCaracal it doesnt help that the method of teaching is either 'here watch this' or 'uhhhh eventually you'll trip over it after throwing yourself at the wall' but like, yeah
@InspectorCaracal the most recent one that prompted it was like "there are only two types of magic! <one i literally havent heard of> and <another i literally havent heard of>" which always gives me a chuckle when things of the sort pass my glance <_<
@fae buy stamps
@fae like dont get me wrong ritual is useful in lots of contexts but like
soooomeone's trying to sell some books
@fae *extremely 2008 irc mage voice* i mean on a purely philosophical level most gain is personal gain if it benefits the community you live in,,,
but *just doing the thing* is kind of like the least work, ironically, instead of like,
rituals
