hey so, postfurs (well, and other people who do it): a thing to note: if yr doing hypno or -anything that can drop succeptable people- it should be CW'd under a tag if yr posting it into the public timeline (I'd go as far as to say *at all, ever*, but lets start with baby steps)
this is a huge bystander consent issue, and one where the after effects of it can be pretty fucking bad
its not just people who are do hypno who can get hit, its dissociative people and a lot of people w/ PTSD
tag
that.
it takes very little from it.
and half yr TF narratives are basically hypno, too, but, baby steps
*puts message in a bottle and throws it into the void*
@nire I think it's largely to do with the pseudoscience behind it being disproven.
it doesnt matter if you dont think it works, it *still* drops people into receptive states if they're succeptable for it, AT BEST
so thats STILL a consent issue, regardless of if you think the rest is a thing
@nire this seems like really common sense. It's baffling that people think "oh this doesn't need to be tagged"
@rozashanina yeah but most of them see it as having fun or playing with identity and like
people follow you for more than getting constantly dropped, and also: being part of the federated timeline is not consent (not that following is, either)
but yeah
its a huge problem even on irc, and twitter, and argh
@nire having fun and messing with identity is great and all, but like even from a purely kink perspective it seems like such a no brainer, even more so in a public/semi public space and when you're dealing with stuff that can affect people's mental state
@rozashanina yep! but furry spaces are so fucking bad at consent in general
@nire this seems to be an unfortunate trend with groups with a history of sexual repression going too far in the other direction in their own spaces. I'm seeing more discourse about it now than I ever have before though so hopefully things are starting to move in a better direction
@rozashanina @starkatt so i think this is maybe like 5% of it and the rest is people using that as a cover
@nire @rozashanina Eurgh. You mention postfurs and IRC and... yeah, I have an uncomfortable suspicion about whom you're speaking. You are absolutely right, bystander engagement and bystander consent need to at least be discussed in a way that gives people an option to decide whether or not engagement is appropriate. There's still negotiation to be done, but folks should at least be showing awareness of the issue.
@literorrery lmao tho if you ignore the hypno part basically every postfurry space needs an entire seven part lecture series on it though
@literorrery there are very few without Those People, Who Are Often The Same People
@literorrery oh when i heard 'whom' here i thought you meant more than one person., i realise you might not ahve but its def. a lot . of people.
@literorrery well, s/person/sophont/ but
@nire Thinking about it, yea... not gonna lie, I've been dropped a couple times looking over my Twitter feed.
The nature of that site does NOT make it easy to work around, here's luckily a lot better for that though
@KawaSeadrake you can just, not have it on the account people follow for other things: its not that bad
@KawaSeadrake but even just tagging it so people can brace is like, nnnnot hard
@KawaSeadrake except the same people often dont even tag it here
feel free to rt this or not, idc, but like, this is a huge issue that no one seems to actually have problems with
