Trust: hard won, easily lost @nire

please use your OS's package manager to install our language's package manager to install our package manager

@nire Ugh, I just thought about installing Python's pip before recently. Especially on systems with ancient versions of python bundled.

@nire It's still kinda shitty on Windows, especially since it installs to a directory only admins can modify, so you need an administrative cmd prompt. It really puts a damper on python group projects, since there's always that one guy who won't just set up a linux VM or read the documentation.

@ikea_femme *puts on google hoodie* clearly the answer is contaners

@nire oh goodness this subtoot applies in so many ways to my current woes with yarn

No, you shouldn't use the language's package manager to install our package manager, you must use your OS package manager

@forivall @nire i'm using yarn installed from npm, not homebrew, and laughing all the way to my doom… 😂

@nire @forivall Truthfully, pretty much every framework for every language has this problem. Packages on packages on packages. Then you add in some VMs and sandboxes and, buddy, you got yourself more abstractions and metaphors than theologies.

@forivall @ikea_femme have you heard the good word of our Lord and savior, hallowed be their name, may they live forever and ever, Docker?
