Trust: hard won, easily lost @nire

reminder that most dehumanizing/hateful things ppl say are either en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighti or en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incite within the US, technically, and thus unprotected speech by the constitution they keep citing, compared to the speech they're often trying to silence with threats and harassment

and that both sidesing *that* as, f. ex the nyt is, further confuses people (and cops) about what IS protected speech

not to mention that all it means is the govt can't do things related to your speech other than those limits, in places they have juristiction over, and otherwise is at the discretion of wherever you are

@nire also they are specifically against the law in at least the UK. Not sure about France where witches is based.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_s

@geekylou yes, though I'm not talking about witches.space here, or even masto stuff in specific, but free speech culture that translates only to "my speech, and I silence everyone else through credible threats of violence and false equivalency that with the occasional accidental dogpile from the other side"

@nire the 1st amendment only applies to the government anyway. you don't get to come in my house and tell me hateful things and then claim 1st amendment when i toss you outside.
