@wxcafe @er1n @iliana ahhhh yeah that's probably it. I think all of the major systems are probably fine for smaller scale usage. i'm just too used to having to wrangle large scale deploys these days. 😄

@wxcafe @er1n @iliana yeah I did years of puppet. in general it works alright, but I found that their custom DSL is where all the bugs are, and damn were there some frustrating bugs over the years.

still. way more practically useful than ansible.

@er1n @iliana I actually like Salt. that's about it though, IMO.

we needed to upgrade to v2.4 of ansible at work for some new features, but already we've found to major showstopping bugs in existing code that cause destruction and potential data loss in our environments.

is it just me or does everything RedHat touches turn to just absolute shit?

@nev yeah, same. van and toronto also have very similar problems that I'm hoping we can address before they get to San Fran levels of bad.

@pursuitofnerdiness oh yeah, that's an interesting specialization where there is still a lot of legacy code at big firms. that being said, the better work (such as libasl, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Simulation_Library) is all C/C++ these days. you're definitely not gonna be leveraging GPU compute capabilities in fortran. 😆
