My diaphram kept spasming, the age-old instinct trying to force air into my lungs. I closed my eyes and focused on fighting that feeling until feeling until it quieted to a mild case of hiccups.

Gently opening them again, I watched as the ship turned and powered away under sublight thrusters. I wanted to consider how they'd turned on me, but the fact that I was still considering anything at all was taking up most of my attention.

Looking up, I realized that even if I wasn't going to die from vacuum exposure, I was still adrift in the middle of a busy shipping lane, and engaged my emergency beacon. Hopefully I'd get picked up, not run over.
