ahhhh damnit, just discovered all the newer OnePlus phone models have that shitty pentile display that makes my eyes go buggy. so that rules them all out immediately.
anyone else have suggestions for a #phone with decent specs and camera that I can slap Lineage on? so sick of this Samsung, but it has a nice camera and lots of RAM so it's hard to find a cheap-ish replacement.
@inmysocks I mean, for good specs, new stuff all seems to be in a crazy $800 price range now which is just insane. I'd ideally like something used for like ~$300 unlocked. but I feel like the days of paying that little for a great phone are gone, unforunately.
@inmysocks I hadn't actually seen FairPhone before, it looks lovely, but orders are on hold and €530 is definitely out of my price range given the current CAD exchange rate. still, gonna keep an eye on them, thanks!
@nergdron I can't really use touch screens so I don't use a smartphone, but I met the founder at a conference and he is a cool guy so my recommendation is based on that as much as anything else. But yeah, keep an eye on them.
@nergdron how cheap-ish are we talking about? the lg g6 is going for 400-500$ these days and works with lineage
@jenbug yeah, that's a bit more than I wanna spend since I do have a working phone already. realized that the Moto phones might be a good option though, I remember them getting good reviews and all supporting open ROMs.
@nergdron they're still pretty good yeah
@jenbug oh they have all of these add-ons for Z-family models, including a really nice looking gamepad. that alone is enough to sway me tbh, makes my phone a lot more useful for portable emus on the train and stuff.
@nergdron oh, heck yeah, those are awesome
if it wasn't for my n3ds xl i might've just saved up for one of those
@nergdron
I m facing the same issue. I'm seriously thinkin about flash my Galaxy S6 with LineageOS. Seems easy, i saw a couple of tutorials...
Wich phone do you have?
@Ian1305 I've got the Note 5, which apparently is hard to work with, has almost no custom ROM dev, and nothing I'd trust on my phone. it's really too bad, the hardware is fine, it's just the shitty Samsung ROM that drives me crazy. every time they do a security update they break something. it's so frustrating.
@nergdron I always recommend FairPhone, but I am not sure that it fits into 'cheapish'
