i wonder what history curriculum is like in other countries.

@TipsyTentacle where I'm from it was mostly "pemmican is made of animal day and berries", "this is the great railroad that made this country be actually able to cross in less than one generation" and "as a Canadian you must carry x amount of guilt about residential, you fucks." That last one is pretty new (and totally fair), so I assume before ~2000 it was just the first two.

@Coradeilinae @TipsyTentacle yeahhhhh they definitely didn't talk about residential schools or really anything of value in the Canadian portions of my high school history classes. it was mostly just like "hey, wasn't colonialism great?" and "one time this Louis Riel fuck tried to take on the government and got killed, don't ever fight the government". 😣

@nergdron @TipsyTentacle my teacher in grade eleven said that Louis Riel was a national hero and we should all try to stand up for our rights like he did. She had a very "it is glorious blood that is spilled for those to lose their chains" sorta outlook.
