*extremely night heron voice* don't look at me

@sloth huh i wonder how hard an instance is to set up

@dubious_chewy nah i think solar atmospheric entry would be a better use of his unique skills

on top of being wrong about nearly everything he puts forth an opinion on, Elon Musk is a deeply vile and fascistic person, driven primarily by his sheer hatred of the people around him. he's a prime example of why we must not allow individuals to control vast amounts of capital

July and August were actually originally Quintilis and Sextilis - the fifth month and the sixth month. They were called this because the year traditionally started in March. So they had Martius, Aprilis, Maius, Junius, Quintilis, Sextilis, September, October, November, December.

Martius was named for Mars; Junius was named for Juno. We have no idea what Aprilis and Maius were named after. (No, really.) Then they got lazy and just numbered the months.

“Why isn’t the new year on winter solstice?”

The answer, honestly, is that the Romans had no fucking idea how to run a calendar.

Lilith's Brood: humanity tries to kill itself in a nuclear war, communist space whale aliens step in to save it, wait shit this is just posadism lmao

@Trev yeah. i live in the bay area and we have this weird mix of some parts of our transit system totally falling apart while others are being built out. and like 45847535 local and regional agencies that barely coordinate. it's such a mess. previously i lived in LA which is probably the most exciting transit network development project in the us right now - they're building like 15+ new rail lines over the next 20 years and transforming la from a miserable car hell to an actual livable megacity

@Trev saaaame. yeah do you mean the airport maglev or the planned Shanghai-Beijing maglev link? for the former, my understanding is that it absorbs a tremendous amount of traffic but the city is just growing so rapidly that every transit mode is basically saturated all the time and that won't change until they build out the regional/commuter hsr grid

@Trev what kind of trains are you into? for me, i am more interested in systems than vehicles (but not *not* into vehicles) and the Chinese HSR system is definitely what's most exciting/interesting to me rn

@Trev maybe we should talk about trains sometime

me: flirt with me
like literally five people: *start messaging me about trains*

lmao i really am a caricature aren't i

flirt with me (if you want to)

@er1n @wxcafe it sounds like this person's problems are non-technical
