okay is there a way to turn of the notification on here? it was cute for a little bit but it's getting really obnoxious

@tinybarks @claire @a_breakin_glass literally the entire point of primitivism is forcing people to live that way. as i and others have said over and over and over in this thread, individuals people who want to go live in the woods are fine, but that's not what primitivism is about

@tinybarks @a_breakin_glass @claire yes, it is true that it would be pragmatically almost impossible for many genocidal ideologies including primitivism to actually take power in the current political and social climate. that does not mitigate the fact that those ideologies are genocidal.

@tinybarks @morganastra @a_breakin_glass @claire if they didn't want to replace society as a whole it wouldn't be a political ideology it would be "liking camping".

me: i should pack light for this trip, it's only a couple days
also me: well i need to bring the books I'm reading

@a_breakin_glass @morganastra @claire oh yeah the construction of the ideology itself is extremely fucking racist for sure

@arcans @bob @claire @morganastra sure. a socialist economy with a high level of automation technology would allow anyone who wants to to go live in the woods and pretend to be a primitivist while maintaining the level of agricultural and industrial infrastructure necessary to sustain human civilization

@claire primitivism is fascism in slow motion. the rejection of technology is equivalent to calling for the genocide of the people who need it to survive. a world without pharmaceuticals, without mobility devices, without exogenous hormones and insulin, without the agricultural and industrial infrastructure to support the human population and free us from the tyranny of subsistence foraging, is pure barbarism.

@claire what is important to me is that the infrastructure i use is democratically accountable to the people who use it. free software is probably a prerequisite for that but it's absolutely not enough

@varx @morganastra of course you need large scale capital investments to build infrastructure. that's what states (or state-like federations of cooperatives) are for!

net neutrality will never truly be possible while network infrastructure can be privately owned and corporations like facebook and google broker many people's entire internet experience. we need to socialize the internet.

@LottieVixen @morganastra @nergdron @KitRedgrave hm, that's promising, i hope they add enough functionality back into the API to make a real vimperator reimplementation feasible

@nergdron @morganastra @KitRedgrave the entire xul framework is missing, with no replacement. the API simply doesn't include facilities to modify the browser UI or the JavaScript execution context. things like vimperator, noscript, tab trees, and firebug (arguably the most important browser plugin ever created) would be impossible to implement in the new API
