Still working my way through Fausto-Sterling's "Sexing the Body".
The more you read about the nitty-gritty history of science, the more BLINDINGLY obvious it is how subjective scientific findings really are, how deeply scientists are constrained by their assumptions, how much is up to interpretation and the public imagination.

@claire anyway not knowing things isn't bad, we're here to learn and grow and build a revolution together right?
@claire Mondragon corporation is a giant federation of industrial collectives in Spain.
zapatista autonomous areas are perhaps the closest thing in the world to actually existing anarchism! you'll want to read about them :3
RSFSR = Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, which was created in the October revolution in 1917 when the workers councils (aka soviets) abolished the bourgeois state and took control of the economy. It was one of the founding members of the USSR a few years later.
@claire but under that definition even Mondragon and the Zapatistas and 1918 RSFSR are state capitalist because the means are/were controlled through representative rather than direct democracy? I'm not trying to be ornery it's just that state capitalist is one of those words people use to evoke vaguely negative connotations without having a specific meaning sometimes
@claire what does "state capitalism" mean to you?
@claire on the second point, syndicalism is great and implies more of a plan for the transitional period than most anarchist tendencies, but it needs a way to protect itself from sabotage, capital strike, and counterrevolution
@claire i wonder if those tendencies are more readily explained by the realities of protecting a revolution from imperialist aggression and global capitalism? i see basically every successful anti-colonialist movement called those things, not just the ML(M) ones. i think we in the imperial core have to dismantle the empire and give them back the resources we stole before we are too judgemental of the ways they protect themselves from the imperialism and material scarcity imposed in our names
@jk i pretty much only go places i already have friends to stay with etc
