@tcql i think its because (right now) the instances are pretty cozy and fun, the public scroll is super cool and social. Everyone is really open and wanting to talk and exchange ideas, factional identity and 'coolness' lines havent been drawn.

Also noncommercial / noncorporate central control makes this feel so much more like old internet?

also is has this huge problem where all the instances can connect to each other but also disconnect at will and is basically the definition of federated!

also it sucks because you can't talk to brands or verified celebrities
