2 peripherally related things have emerged from IT over the past five years:

- X as a Service
- platforms

the first is an acknowledgement that IT is a service industry. unfortunately, it's coming from people who mostly don't know how to offer, sell, or support services

the latter is taking it multiple steps further: rather than competing with other service providers, you simply create your own, closed off marketplace. again, this is being done by people who don't know how marketplaces work
