Bonne Nuit, witches!
I spent the day coding and was having so much fun, I didn't want to stop; but I did so I could snuggle on the couch with my partner and watch the last episode of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.
My life is really great right now.
My experience is that anyone who uses the phrase "virtue signaling" (non-ironically) is probably a total shit.
I've written 'toot', a very simple command-line utility to allow Mastodon posts to be sent from the command-line: https://www.npmjs.com/package/toot

Hey folks, @pupper and I are queer, disabled, really cute and about six weeks away from homelessness. Our current income barely covers basic living expenses and we're struggling to get the money together to move. Please take a look at our fundraiser if you can. Shares are really appreciated. Thank you. https://www.youcaring.com/caelynellisandlorenadamson-767966
I was Certified as a Mastodon Engineer 10 years ago and all I got was this lousy :pineapple:
This is the kind of book programmers at witches.town read.
monetizing mastodon is actually easy and good:
-make a instance
-fill with bots that act like people
-charge brands to get in
-keep it from reaching the fediverse
- Docker introduces some overhead
- Ruby/Rails isn't *the* lightest stack out there
- When running, Mastodon will eat up just about any memory you give it... lots of stuff is stored in memory as it tries to cache feeds and maintain/communicate connections with tens of remote instances
- Redis is entirely in-memory by nature
- You also have a Node process running for the web which takes ~100mb at least
Code. Code. Code. Spent the day writing tests for something I am working on and had that wonderful experience where my tests revealed bugs in what I was writing even before I was finished writing it.
I always feel really good about a piece of code that I know I did my best to make nice and tidy and well-tested.

to my friends on witches.town, here's something y'all might find cool:
I made a spell circle based on a turing machine: http://tilde.town/~blackle/spell_circles/ https://icosahedron.website/media/rld2rrxIEA_j6kPGObg
If you've ever been interested in Common Lisp, but been put off by the idiosyncrasies (fragmentation) of the ecosystem, I stumbled over these resources recently, and they were useful to me.
Hello world, ready for le joie de vivre lesson of the day? Ok, it is parti.
Lesson 5 - the bite
"Bite" is a very very important word in France: it is the most common nickname for penis. It's our "dick".
We don't prononce it "byt" but "beet".
Since a few months, we see that Americans use "Bite" in their restaurants: "Take a bite", "Beer-Billards-Bite", "24/24 bite".
If you don't know the French bite, please continue, it's funny.
If you know it, please stop, we got it. Say "tapas".
