My friend has this wonderful phrase to describe that thing in programming where someone adds a Boolean argument to a method that then causes the method to do two dramatically different things. He calls the perpatrators 'bool ninjas'.

I am in the middle of detangling a neglected bit of code where the bool ninjas were allowed free rein.
