i have been trying to build gtk in such a way that the rust bindings for it can detect it and everything has failed. i have followed the instructions. i have not followed the instructions. i have uninstalled and reinstalled everything. the world is terrible.

ok. was excited about libui but turns out the rust bindings have no documentation, a readme that's two lines, and don't seem to work on windows at all? or they aren't installable via cargo?

anyway this experience has given me frightening insight into why all desktop applications are terrible
as i've been branching out of just making games i've been getting more and more frustrated with windows and maybe i'll switch to linux soon
wanna buy a new hard drive and maybe an SSD first though, plus i still don't have a decent replacement for FL Studio on linux and i know i don't have the like strength of character to dual-boot
electron is tempting (and i used it for a while) but

2. memory usage is fucking. absurd.
2. the build toolchain is a complete fucking mess and making builds of electron apps is a nightmare that takes like an hour for each platform
at first i was hoping to make an application that like, looks nice and stuff but now i would be happy to like literally draw a window on a screen with buttons
after several hours of trying and failing to compile and use various gui toolkits i have come to the conclusion that making a desktop application in 2017 is literally impossible
i actually completely forgot to send out press emails for nullpointer so i'm glad someone decided to write about it anyway
