persona (and kinda smt more broadly but the other games tend to be better about this) is a fantastic example of a series whose potential has been squandered by a big developer not wanting to take risks on dumping what doesn't work and emphasizing what does
part of why i really want to play persona 5 (and why i think it's had kind of a lukewarm reaction, at least in the circles i run in) is that i've heard it's even more of a mechanical improvement while still being even *more* of a narrative step back and is *still* not any fun, and honestly that doesn't surprise me
it's amazing how much of a big mechanical improvement persona 4 is over persona 3 while simultaneously
1. being a huge narrative step backwards
2. still not being actually *fun*
@chr it'd almost definitely get better if i had it use larger segments, like 2 or 3 characters, which i tried to do, but then i ran into some bugs and got bored
@chr oh yeah definitely. you can see that it sometimes gets stuck in a loop where it just says l or f or some other letter that gets repeated over and over and over again
tfw you log into mastodon
@page holy fucking shit that is almost waluigi
me: i wonder why i have so much trouble trusting people

persona 3 soundtrack: jazz fusion, japanese hip-hop, weird cool house music
persona 4 soundtrack: japanese buttrock, piano ballads
