anyway i've got the latest version of unity running on this linux install natively and it's the best feeling in the whole world

i want to try to get FL Studio to work with wine (it looks like it has pretty good compatibility?) otherwise i'll have to use some terrible foss daw

also i want to get a WINE steam install working so i can try to play some windows games

@lycaon WINE + Steam does work as does FL Studio but eh iirc audio was bad but I tried a few years ago

@LottieVixen @lycaon i think i looked at the compatibility list the other day and it said fl studio couldn't use multiple cores in wine. If true that's still manageable but kind of awful

MOVED @lycaon

@LottieVixen @Triplefox why is audio production on linux so hard

@lycaon @Triplefox eugh and everything else is nowhere near as friendly as FL :(

@LottieVixen @Triplefox yeah ;w;

i tried some of the big linux alternatives like lmms or ardour or tracktion and man they all REALLY suck

maybe i'll just fuckin. do everything with hardware and just record and mix with audacity

@Triplefox @LottieVixen I KNEW I GOT THESE SYNTHS FOR A REASON, she says, trying to justify having more bleep bloop boxes in her house

@LottieVixen @lycaon i have a weird history of using demo or pirated fl and then going to something else for years and secretly thinking "maybe i should just use fl" and now I'm coming around to that idea again

@Triplefox @lycaon I pirated FL for ages...its so pretty... and nice, I used to have ableton but lost my darn license somehow, that was nice too but eugh

I really want to buy FL some day

@LottieVixen @Triplefox yeah i've used a pirated copy of FL for years

honestly i usually don't like piracy but for stuff like that i do not give a shit

@lycaon @Triplefox it doesn't bother me for most "big" corp things but...FL just feels more...homely and I want to support them

@LottieVixen @lycaon these days i'm not as worried about the support so much as wanting to have it be really simple to reinstall everything. which sometimes means pirating? but not always

@Triplefox @lycaon ah I get that.

The thing that worries me about pirating now, at least in Australia is the data retention laws and not having a seedbox

@lycaon @LottieVixen like i have a new desktop build arriving tomorrow and i made a usb stick with all the windows software i want to install, with the exception of the audio stuff because i have a whole separate category for plugins that is almost as big

@LottieVixen @Triplefox honestly they're kind of shitty assholes so i don't care

@lycaon @Triplefox TIL...didn't know, thanks for clearing my mind on that

@LottieVixen @lycaon oh also i did try getting a $1 plugin, and later an add-on bundle that uses the ilok license manager software(apparently not the same as the dongle?) and the manager software can't even correctly start up on boot under win10, you have to manually enable the service every time. super inconvenient

i might use those plugins again but it will be done by sailing the seven seas
