@alyx yeah it's super interesting. sapir-whorf in its strictest form has been pretty much debunked (ie like, speakers of langauges with fewer color words than english aren't literally worse at differentiating colors, even when they don't have words for the colors they're differentiating between), but for more abstract things like gender or time there's some significant evidence
