@morganastra Hi, nice witch friend!
@morganastra Fruit, nuts, whipped cream, really light sweet cheese if you have it...
@morganastra Oh, gross. That... would sting me a hell of a lot, too. I'm really sorry.
ONE OF US. if you haven't read Katherine Cross's recent article about Chelsea Manning yet, I really encourage you too, it's really good and captures the experience of being trans and watching Chelsea go through hell. gosh. this article made me tear up.
btw I really hope Chelsea Manning signs up here. somebody who knows her better than I do, invite her :3

@nire But... but isn't talking about ancient civilizations always important?
@nire @morganastra I think it's important to remember that the concept of hubris was literally created to talk about the shit that people from this particular awful warrior culture did-- and this was by people who idolized them, who were trying to portray them in the best possible light.
I like how, unlike with Irish immigrants to the US and St. Patrick's day, we QUILTBAG types could never settle on just one day for Pride, but somehow we rolled with this and now claim THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JUNE as ours.
Not that I'm all that into Pride: I'm not into crowded parties full of strangers, and, by the time I figured out my queerness, Pride activities anywhere I've lived haven't meant as much as they used to. But it just sorta seems appropriate, you know?
And, just, hell yes for claiming all of what is at least almost everywhere in the US the most pleasant month of summer as ours, with no declaration of an [inter]national [whatever] [unit of time].
@rosa Parallel computing and bluegrass history would be such a good class, though.
@persenche A cool thing about Mastodon is that you don't need to make a private account-- you can selectively set some posts to just be followeres-only, even if your default is public.
(I mean, you might still want it if you want to have a smaller follower's list for a private account, but Mastodon being what it is I'm guessing that'd be less of an issue here than it is on Twitter.)
if you have questions about trans healthcare, http://transhealth.ucsf.edu/ is the best compendium of real information available. please note that the UCSF Center of Excellence for Transgender Health is run by a trans woman (who is a doctor (who did her dissertation on the long-term effects of HRT)). there is literally no one on this planet more qualified to write about trans healthcare than Maddie Deutsch
@nire Oh hey, I saw posters for that in the stairwell!
@nire Are you already on progesterone?
@nire In my experience that's not a thing people are ever good at getting over.

@BayMax Thank you!
@AirDur Thanks! (And wow do introductions get a lot of notice here relative to mastodon.social.)
@Sylvhem Thank you!
...are introductions still a thing when you're just moving instances? I guess they might be. I have no idea who browses local timelines where.
Anyway, hi. I'm one of those nerdy trans dykes. I spent too much time in academia before figuring myself out, which is what I blame for how wordy I am. I don't know what to blame for anything else, but given enough time I'm sure I'll think of something.
I made this account to check out the local timeline and then noticed that there are other reasons not being on a super overloaded instance is nice. Thus the switching.
I shamefully only speak English, but I'm gonna try really hard not to be a jerk about that.
