can you believe 2016 was five years ago? holy shit

Dear new users: don't be afraid to ask questions about how things work around here!

2007: twitter.com
2017: bingus.planet, gay.water.source

You know what's gonna fail? IRC. *shakes head* I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I just don't see a way to generate revenue

ALSO MY PATRONUS IS A FOX AND I LIKE BOARD GAMES

since a few of you have asked about my research: no, i'm not here *for* research. if i were, i would ask first, because consent, ethics, etc :sparkles:

i am paying close attention to abuse and harassment on masto, and chiming in with resources/suggestions when i can. always love to hear from people who have experience or ideas in this arena.

my research tries to better understand why people participate in harassing behaviors online—especially when harassment is perceived to be "deserved."

@y cc @Gargron. blocked account was still able to boost a toot from its blocker

@enkiv2 @plsburydoughboy i met my partner on the birdsite ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BUT I AM NOW EXTREMELY COMMITTED TO MASTO

I think a major source of bad Mastodon takes is that people are used to a totalizing, Facebookian idea of why social networks have value; Facebook (purportedly) has value because every single person you know is on it. But from a lot of perspectives, this is a misfeature. People fail to grasp how Mastodon can have value when it's about participative communities and not about mapping your entire social life onto a digital space.

@dconley @Alda could also be witch mum tbh. or momma witch

Free thinkpiece: "Mastodon is hostile to brands and that's why its users love it"

@aemarc working on it (in between work...)! hoping to post tomorrow. will share.
