Federation is great but it isn't magic. If a server goes offline than what was on that server is also offline. This is the same for anything hosted on a server, it isn't specific to mastodon. It is the same on twitter and facebook and google plus and anything else.
Misgendering trans people on purpose is very asshole-y. Even if you think they are jerks.
