The computers were mad that the government disconnected them from each other so they LAUNCHED NUKES TO TEACH THE HUMANS A LESSON, this movie got dark fast
The sentient American nuke computer wants to talk to the sentient Russian nuke computer and the humans are VERY SURPRISED

The computer just became self aware and told the nice computer men that "THERE IS ANOTHER SYSTEM" and they are SURPRISED
"is the AI capable of creative thought? No" is basically the sci fi equivalent of Chekhov putting a gun on the mantle in act I
This is a 1960s movie about offloading all nuclear warfare decisions to a massive AI system, no way this is going to go wrong
