A moratorium on the use of the phrase "people think x" without explaining who people are--eg, saying "more people don't believe in climate change" rather than "people recently endowed with massive power and a monopoly on violence don't believe in climate change"

i didnt care about masto at all until i joined witches.town, i love the little space we've carved out here - its so special! if youre just joining now, im excited for you!

@tinysubversions would you watch the livestream of "what if phones but too much" Darius

Minority Report is interesting though specifically because of the way Spielberg approached worldbuilding--like he literally wanted to change the visual culture of the future, and he did, and like everything else bad it's kind of Jaron Lanier and Stewart Brand's fault. wired.com/2012/06/minority-rep

I was originally planning a small conference about the weird effect of the movie Minority Report on tech and culture but I couldn't come up with a good name for it. Now considering a larger SF/worldbuilding in general scope, but the only good name I can think of is "what if phones but too much"

Just interrogating the algorithmic reality of being super behind on email

If I spend most of this "post truth and algorithmic reality" workshop that I agreed to attend like, catching up on emails, will anyone notice

@samis yeah, people had weird ideas in like, 2011. I think it had to do with how DMs worked at that time? It was dumb.

@jamesacklin the instance model allowing the platform to set some intention is part of it, i think. like i was kind of unsure if I would enjoy mastodon, but I *definitely* enjoy witches town. In the past 24 hrs I have almost exclusively said "witches town" instead of "mastodon" when asked about mastodon.

@jamesacklin sure, i guess it's more what twitter becomes as the opinions move away from it. more like a newsmedia/breaking news/boys are back in town jokes rss I guess?

Talking about if Mastodon will replace birdsite reminds me of the brief flurry of takes from a few years ago about whether Facebook will replace email. Maybe they just do different things.

Should I take the day off to go work on spells
