I was originally planning a small conference about the weird effect of the movie Minority Report on tech and culture but I couldn't come up with a good name for it. Now considering a larger SF/worldbuilding in general scope, but the only good name I can think of is "what if phones but too much"
@tinysubversions would you watch the livestream of "what if phones but too much" Darius
@tinysubversions @lifewinning hi I'd like a ticket or to pay some money for this kickstarter or whatever it is that would support this very good idea ingrid
Minority Report is interesting though specifically because of the way Spielberg approached worldbuilding--like he literally wanted to change the visual culture of the future, and he did, and like everything else bad it's kind of Jaron Lanier and Stewart Brand's fault. https://www.wired.com/2012/06/minority-report-idea-summit/
Update on this idea: is calling an event about the role of worldbuilding and SF in technology, policy, and culture "Future Perfect" hella lazy or reasonable? Promise there will be a "what if phones but too much" track
@lifewinning I'll suggest a "History of the Future" direction. https://mastodon.social/media/tpB04W1mbxA63SKtFwM https://mastodon.social/media/XxOxXgBKK3kMA8gtBS4 https://mastodon.social/media/PvvY34_V71nPC9hE8cM https://mastodon.social/media/V44it3SHtZQr5RMAm_Q
@lifewinning that's good actually
