i feel like i cant and wont use masto today, because theres so much neglect for cws regarding a super heavy topic, that its not comfortable for me. im not the only one. we use this platform because these tools are available. i know for me, having the option to only open these posts if i can handle it is something that would make me able to use masto right now...

for sooo many people who seriously consider suicide.

Who are you to tell people you literally don't know, who have been feeling depressed and suicidal for *years*, that their problems are only temporary? When they've tried everything and shit just doesn't get better?

It's more complicated.

A lot of you might have seen confusing toots today about it being a sad day for the Mastodon community, suicide prevention stuff etc.

It's because an active Mastodon user, Natalie Nguyen (@tipsytentacle), decided that she didn't want to live anymore and has passed away.

We need to really talk about using content warnings properly, folks. Because people really ignored that part *a lot* with this and it doesn't just suck - it is plain dangerous.

Going forward I'm not going to be CWing frank discussion of my depression or anxiety (although I will try to CW negative self-talk, discussion of death, etc.).

No one is helped by hiding that stuff away; it just plays into the societal stigma against mental illness and its sufferers, and for too long Polite Society has told us "oh, we just don't /talk/ about that" to try to sweep us under the rug.

There is no shame in mental illness and there should be no proscription against discussing it.

Mich nervt dieses verbreitete Ostdeutschland-Bashing total. Ich bin derartig gegen die Nazis da, aber Herablassung und Verachtung hilft nicht, mit "höhö, wisstschon, Ostdeutschland" über die "Primitiven" in der Provinz lästern … ne ey.

Das hilft keinem, das ist reines "Wir-gegen-die", um sich geil zu fühlen, und mal auf wem rumzuhacken.

Bitte lassts. Das ist unproduktiv, unempathisch, fucking unsolidarisch, und vermeidet die Diskussion und Aufarbeitung tatsächlicher Probleme.

A lot of people are missing the point of the twitter boycott. Ok heres how twitter works, they sell your data to advertisers for money, any interactions, good or bad are data they can sell.

All that harassment women get? That makes them money. All the call outs, all the toxic shit, all the fights with bad people? Makes them money.

They have a vested interest in creating engagement and nothing does that better than anger. They keep the bad people around because they know you will fight them. Thats data, they can sell that and then market to people just like you.

While they market to the people who want to abuse you too.

*not using twitter* is literally the only way to hurt them.
