just a reminder that insulting someone else's intelligence is ableist, k thx
If you see the admins of your instance doing some really freaking questionable shit like ooh say silencing the instance of a woman who was being vocal about her harassment, call them on it. If you see a colleague or boss flexing their patriarchy muscle, call them on it. Anywhere. Silence doesn't help us, it really doesn't; silence is akin to saying 'I'm going to let this happen'.
In a world where #authoritarian relations are the norm (online and off), learning how to relate to each other in liberated, #selfgoverned spaces is hard. We internalize so much behavior that's adaptive for our survival under authoritarianism, but turns incredibly #toxic when enacted in free spaces.
There's much learning & unlearning to do, and the struggles of earlier radical projects & spaces have much to teach #Mastodon.

Short reminder, that acab ('all cops are bastards' in its original meaning)
is very discriminating and should be switched with ACAT (all cops are targets).

Queer people openly and happily flaunting and celebrating their queerness is literally my favorite thing on this whole dang planet.
POC - especially WOC and I see this happen a lot to Black and Indigenous women in particular - get told off for being "too political" just for talking about _the reality of their lives_. And now you want us to put such talk behind a content warning like it's a trigger? Do you know how often us talking about race gets fought back by White people as "omg you talking about racism is too triggering" as though racism doesn't affect OUR mental health? What's the cultural expectation here, geez!

#Linguistics Eventually, in the 13th century or whatever, someone invented a smaller canon that you could carry. They called it a hand cannon or, colloquially, a hand Guna. This is why we call firearms "gun".
So this one Danish immediate family's names are the origin of two words for technologies that are hallmarks of modern technology: the gun and Bluetooth.
Language is weird.
#Linguistics You know how sometimes we name weapons after women? Like we might paint "Big Bertha" on the side of a giant fuckoff artillery deal mounted on a naval ship?
Well when cannons were newish they did this, too. There was one particular canon that was famous because it was so big and the folks that owned it had named it Queen Gunhilde. So there was a lot of copy catting of that name. And this common name for cannons eventually got shortened to just Guna. +
