i feel like the activism of artists who arent considered Professional Activists is constantly downplayed and i've been noticing it while reading about rappaport; idk if i'd call him An Activist but he hung around activists and a lot of his work that i'm familiar with has anti-ableism themes
i'd been put off by historical research for a long time bc my dad is a historian and primarily cares and talks about white cishet dudes and occasionally white cishet women and if disability comes up at all it's rarely in the context of activism (and its not something i can talk to him about because my dad... has a lot of internalized ableism honestly)
there's something very Validating about learning about the history of disability activism... idk if i have the time/energy to do so this visit but afaik my family still has writing by my great aunt, who had schizophrenia and was iirc involved in feminist circles also... i'm really really interested to know more about her life
i was told that i couldnt connect to my grandma because there were things about her i disliked and now that she's passed away i really wish i could talk to her about her experiences as a feminist in the mid 20th century and also her experiences with psychosis
one thing that consistently frustrates me is seeing people my age not include the elderly in their social justice
so it turns out my grandpa has been getting billed for an online archive service for the past three years because my family signed up for a "free trial" while trying to locate a friend of my grandma's after she passed away and i'm disgusted by capitalism & the concept of keeping personal and historical info behind paywalls
i have no issues w/ gluten but a lot of my favorite sweets are gf just bc i dont like cakey/floury textures
welcome to causality violation, I've already taken your order
@alyx if you're both comfortable with/able to do long walks i vote exploring a cool local area like a park... also art museums if there are cheap/free ones
Hey folks, when you share a NSFW link or hidden image can you also breifly describe or at least tease the contents, so I have some idea whether it's something I'm interested in or should avoid?
last retoot is SO FUNNY to us
approach all situations with the confidence of a 16 year old who has smoked pot twice talking to a 16 year old who has smoked pot once
if you're interested in 80's tv shows, particularly ones with respectful disability representation, please consider signing the petition to have the wizard released on dvd! there's been a campaign to release the show for home viewing since 2009 (at least) but unfortunately it's not very well-known. the petition, and contact info for signing, can be found here: http://www.thewizardtvfansite.com/petition.htm
even if you aren't interested in signing, please boost!
the two classes i really wish i could take at university are bodies & culture and history of madness
it feels like the universe is guiding me towards a career in historical preservation and documenting and it's... nice, i'm feeling hopeful
