So... Does anyone here have experience with ren'py? I'm getting the impression it's one of those tools where it's easy to do the simple things but really hard to do the harder things. I dunno. Just, stuff like "make a button appear on the screen with a nice animation" seems like it should be a lot easier than it's turning out to be.
@lambdagrrl its usually possible to unpack released games to see how they do it; rpatool work well for this: https://github.com/Shizmob/rpatool
@lambdagrrl a surprising number of games include their source files in their RPAs
@skw I already was looking at another game's source. It was a bit terrifying.
@lambdagrrl I don't have any direct experience with Ren'Py but I've done some experimenting with engines for text games. (Like Inform and Twine) I've never published anything; it's just opening a project, mucking about, then deleting it because I lack ideas. If you'd prefer someone with more experience I could boost your toot if that's okay with you.
Maybe the 80-20 rule applies. If someone else does the first 80% of the work for you, all that's left is the harder 80% of the work.

Probably I'm just stupid
