so she doesn't get opportunities to be snarky, or bubbly, or clever, & so on, though she _is_ those things. (?)
i guess it could be framed that these connections function as a sort of extension, then? with variable "closeness," explaining why they sometimes function as a "self," sometimes a "representation," & sometimes a soulbond-thingy.
i might be looking at the cause-effect backwards, though.
