that was the case for our games, too.
but we're doing games again now, when head's clear enough.

@kitsch so like with the disclaimer that i'm very time constrained and kind of flaky and have never done game music (all my recordings have been mostly-acoustic vocal-centric songs), i could try making a track if you like? XD

i think the general soundtrack mood i'd had in mind was unworried, wistful, mostly positive, adventurous but steady and casual? the characters are supposed to be kids who are partially goofing around if that helps with getting ideas or insight.

(i don't really understand genres unfortunately ><)
for format, you mean file format right? any standard mp3 wav ogg should be fine, i've got audacity to convert it if my game software is picky.

is that, does that tell you what you need to know?

@kitsch that works! genres meaning like, 8-bit / chiptune vs electronic vs gamey acoustic, vague instrumentation? i can try something from just this but if you can think of any specific games or tracks that have a rough audio aesthetic you like, that helps

@fae i feel like, based on my own past experience with game music composition, it's harder to work from an example song because then that song sets up certain expectations and it's harder to be original. but maybe that's just how i see saw it. i still can get one, if you'd like?

i think what i'd originally had in mind before you asked was electronic, but really you should feel free to do whatever you want, and if you're used to acoustic or vague instrumentation then it's a-ok to go from there regardless of how "gamey" it is!
