Fellow witches, especially those new to The Craft:

Please remember that *almost anything* you do can be magical.

I'm going to speak from my experience as a musician and composer here, as that is what I am most familiar with.

When I perform music, I enter a state of altered consciousness. It's very similar to the Buddhist "focused mind".

I cease to be "myself" and become solely a channel for the music I'm playing.

When composing, my musical thoughts come entirely from some nebulous "elsewhere". My mundane brain works out the mechanics, but the sparks come from somewhere outside of me.

IME, it's about intent and focus.

If you decide something magical is going to happen, you channel forces outside of yourself to that end.

Music is a great example, because sometimes through melody and harmony alone, you can create a mental/emotional state in another.

That is magic!

But so many other media lend themselves to the same principle.

I occasionally make jewelry; in doing that, I manipulate metal through heat to create objects imbued with a certain fundamental power.

*Any* endeavour can be imbued with this psychic intent. Some more easily than others.

So don't discount what seems mundane. Approached with this focus and intent, it is anything but.

Consider everyone who worked on the Apollo Moon missions. Consummate scientists, each and every one of them!

Yet, perhaps unwittingly, they worked magic.

They brought us to our nearest celestial neighbour. They inspired wonder and awe in thousands of people.

So don't discount the seemingly mundane. If you approach it passionately, openly, you will work untold wonders.

Even your budgeting worksheet can be a work of magic if you set your mind to it.

Tl, dr; magic is all around us and within us.

Washing dishes can be magical. We just have to focus on the task & "go with the flow".

Open your mind to things outside of yourself. You will experience wonder and awe.

I think what we appreciate most about magick is that as a practice and an experience, it’s wide open. Anyone can freestyle witchcraft in whatever way feels right to them. There aren’t a lot of hard-and-fast rules. (Except for using salt and ironically or un-ironically saying “The moon is my wife”)

@electricwitch @Qwyrdo yes yes yes! nobody can tell you what's going to be meaningful to you! it's different for everybody. nobody can tell you what's shiny for _you_, what's magickal for _you_, you have to find out for yourself :}

@kel @electricwitch @Qwyrdo well, there _is_ value in tradition, in meaning that's been built up by collective knowledge. it can't _all_ be _strictly_ personal, I don't think...

@kara @electricwitch @Qwyrdo well, sure, but even there you have to work out for yourself what parts of the tradition speak to you. if _none_ of a "tradition" is shiny to you, then...what use is it?
