@kel we are not allowed to pet them; we're discouraged from looking at them directly (unless necessary) or talking to them, which can cause health problems from stress, or acclimation to humans, which has its own health problems. but yes I got to pet them, sort of. :D
oh and I forgot I got to see a barred owl being weighed! and then was given a rat and mantling and hissing and beak-clacking over the rat because HUNGRY YOU NO TAKE FOOD.
