so, what have been some of your depression entertainments? (glitch.social/@gcupc/2288632)

I'll add to those things already suggested...

1. Going back to some website or forum that you abandoned with good reason years ago, "just to see what it's like now" (done that with SomethingAwful)

2. Playing a movie that's so overfamiliar to you that you don't even really watch it, you just have the sound going and occasionally you take a look at the screen while you're doing something else on your computer or whatever

3. Opening reference books like a dictionary or the Merck Index to random pages and reading whatever entries you find

4. "Hey, Mastodon, what's up?"

I've been learning a lot about the Seattle Freeze lately. It's when people are really nice when you meet them but never follow up. This has happened twice with people who have offered to give me resume feedback.
It's not just a Seattle thing though: my sister and I had this happen to us repeatedly at school in other places.
On the other hand, that it's got a name here tells me it's not something that wrong with me. That's almost comforting.

There's a large and very loud AODD ("air-operated double diaphragm") pump at my workplace that operates intermittently, and has weirdly taken to exhibiting more and more complex behavior when it vents air pressure. Instead of just venting air at regular intervals, it'll do stuff like intersperse widely spaced bursts with fusillades of closely spaced bursts.

It's gotten me to fantasizing idly about a horror story in which someone working a night shift in a noisy factory starts becoming convinces that someone or something is attempting to send messages to them via the timing and spacing of the various bangs, clanks, and other factory noises.

if ya'll want to know more about me; hi I'm Raelynn, 25 yr old Transwoman (and very gay) living in Portland. Self taught programmer with a variety of experience (if anyone knows anyone hiring in the area please hmu!) I spend my downtime with my guitar and trying to get back into my writing. I've been working nonstop since I've been 14 and life seems to love throwing curve balls my way. I've made it this far though after an extremely rough year, recently fired after having to go on short term disability after a mental breakdown. This year has seen lots of close calls, but I've learned to make my own luck and keep forging ahead. Any help is appreciated!

got an odd question for all you lovely folk, and it's about signatures. I've got about 30 years at least of habit behind my current signature, which to be fair doesn't much resemble a name, but it's still pretty clearly not based on "Kara Dreamer". what's others' experience, if any, with changing signatures?

real (if lame) attempt at a new spirituality, or a Silicon Valley con artist's tax shelter? you decide! wired.com/story/god-is-a-bot-a

Alright I know I done it several times before but this is an absolute emergency now. My bank just took gigantic overdraft fees from me I had 30€ left for the month and now I'm at -100€ I've never been been this much and it's very, very, very bad and as soon as I can I will leave this bank but in the meantime I really really need help. Sorry to ask again but I really don't have any solution for now. I need to eat.

I haven't been able to get myself into an after-work routine that enables me to make any progress on extracurricular stuff (e.g. writing or craftwork or any of the other things I was doing to occupy myself when I was completely out of work.) @Ulfra_Wolfe has encouraged me to try setting some regular interval, even if it's just fifteen minutes a night, but as is so often with me I never get round to doing anything other than eat, spend a little time with my polycule maybe, and look at social media. :/

Chessboxing is the ultimate sport. Old basic mental contest mixed with old basic physical contest.

In the Far Future! all sports will be chessboxing.

or, more accurately, the Sport will be a form of chessboxing as we know it
