Kara Dreamer (obsolete) ⚧ @kara_dreamer@witches.town

ok, I'm back to grinding on "Mother 3" which means I'm not streaming. I was strongly advised that one of my characters was underleveled for the fight that was about to take place. I've gotten as far as Mixolydia ("Missy" <3) and the whacked-out magic mushroom trip level

@Commissar_Jane I've been using another account on an instance with a 1500-character limit, @kara_dreamer, to try to write short fiction. I got bogged down but for a while I was writing fresh paragraphs at a pretty good clip, and in fact I found the experience far less intimidating and less likely to bog me down in writer's block than just facing a blank page with infinite space to fill, which is what Microsoft Word (or whatever) would do to me.

@kellerfuchs like, if I taught organic chemistry, I'd put it into a biological context right away, because 9/10th of the students who are compelled to take O-chem are probably doing it because they're going into a biological or medical field, not because they're going to become organic chemists (who can't get jobs any more anyway)

@kellerfuchs it's my firm belief that chemistry is one of the worst taught major subjects in school, with a scrambled mess of a curriculum that seems almost a holdover from the turn of last century when chemistry wasn't even fully organized as a discipline yet. Organic chemistry is especially badly taught, top-heavy with nomenclature that hardly anyone needs to know, even chemists (like, they've got computer programs that handle that shit now) and memorizing reactions that nobody uses any more

figure I'm gonna start with a personal reminiscence, basically, "how I got into chemistry in the first place and what it's meant to me over the years", and then start tackling some individual topics. my aim isn't to come up with a coherent set of instructional material, which was an earlier and more ambitious plan, but just to select items of interest and enlarge upon them for 30-45 min

LB: gonna solicit a few more responses to that question but I'm pretty heartened by the responses I already got from it and think I've got enough inspiration to start working up a couple scripts for a potential chemistry podcast

Oh, I want to ask folks here a question, in connection with a project I've been thinking about off and on the last few months. the question is...what do you think, in general, about the subject of ?

and I mean, _any_ thoughts at all. I want all the answer. think chemistry is the worst subject you had in school? let me know about it! do you think it's a dismal, second-rate science? that's cool too. if you think it's interesting chiefly because you get to set things on fire, I want to hear that as well :p

Hi newcomers.

I'm a trans woman in computer science. I'm bi. Currently, in my life, I'm looking for a clothes iron in this hackerspacey sort of place to see if I can get appliques on my halloween costume. Other than that, I'd say I have nothing to envy in life.

@mawr @Ulfra_Wolfe @zebratron2084 Carkeek Park is fairly easy. Discovery Park takes a bit more endurance because of the steepness of the bluffs

seriously derailed my plans for the day by overeating and then sleeping :/ I'm feeling pretty wiped out from work I guess...but I'm gonna get myself back on track and get back to "Mother 3". I did figure out where I was going wrong last time

"So, what fursonas have you been through?" (repost from Birdland) Afficher plus

@mawr @Ulfra_Wolfe @zebratron2084 I almost feel like this is something I could enjoy again, now that I've got a job that keeps me in better shape, but on the other hand, now that I have such a job, I want to spend my off hours sitting or lying down :p

ok, gonna break my earlier / pledge and definitely recommend following @loveisanalogue because they're doing something I only _wish_ I could do, which is regularly use mastodon for

- I found it! I know what we've been doing wrong
- What is it?
- Knowledge! We know too much about how we work! We have a deterministic awareness of ourselves
- What?
- You see, that's the things with humans. They've no idea how they work. They make it up as go along - a soul here, an ego there. They don't know -
- But -
- and that's where emotions, and ultimately consciousness, come from!
- From ignorance?
- Yes!
- Mainframe UbrdsXf4533: I think you need a service.

@zebratron2084 so, basically, turning masculinity from a social obligation into a kind of tourist activity? *snickers* I'm imagining something like a ren faire only less pseudo-mediaeval and more...barbershop quartet

"Build" just oozes style, and there have been some beautiful shots and compositions. (one reason I like to watch even second-rate Kamen Rider.) also unlike the previous season Ex-Aid which was unabashedly "tropey" and fairy-tale-like with its storytelling, giving us types rather than characters, Build is going for a more personal approach, and the show's actually succeeded in making me cry a couple times.

mind you, I cry over everything
