After communing with both the witches and the wizards, I've been reassured that both terms are purely magical in nature and confer no gender. Good news for fledgling pinball experts.
Hold on... *taps finger to earpiece* Some people are phoning in to let me know that in folklore witches are actually women. Ah, this is a popular misconception due to never meeting a witch in real life.
@wilkie I like the classification system suggested by the Discworld series: wizards do big flashy Dungeons and Dragons magic, whereas witches know subtle secrets and mostly employ that knowledge to avoid having to do big flashy magic.
(I am absolutely a witch partisan here.)
@jwisser that's generally how I see it too. witches are involved with spiritual/earthly magic. wizards conjure and use energy/chemistry. something along those lines/delineations.
