thinking about how you might be able to do federated push notification proxies from mastodon -> (apple / google) push -> phones that mastodon apps can use in order to not set up their own servers
@iliana Interesting, the PWA version of this doesn't have a problem, apparently because it's up to the browser vendor to implement the push service: https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/push-notifications/how-push-works

@iliana My impression is that, in the end, all of these push services are really just wrappers that call into GCM/FCM or APNS using somebody's api keys :/
